Girls for Sale

A display within a San Francisco shopping center exhibited several young women of all ages with price tags attached to their bodies. The displays, element of a campaign by the Working Group Against Human Trafficking, sought to highlight the issue of man trafficking and to raise awareness of the difficulty. The advertisements featured the women’s ages, weight, height, and other measurements. They also included their countries of delivery and gender. In the process, the women’s reports and the job of the performers were taken to light.

An set up called “Women for Sale” was created by the Task Pressure about Human Trafficking in Sweden, as part of a campaign to make consumption of sexual providers a criminal offense. The unit installation was an interactive assembly, which viewable real women and their prices with all the data they can provide: height, weight, and measurements. The goal was to increase awareness of this practice and collect enough signatures to pressure the ministry to take action.

The women on display in the assembly were exhibited in the store’s window with price tags and details of their very own height, weight, and other measurements. The prices within the women were published next for their photos, as well as the price tags included their nation of origin. The assembly aimed to raise awareness regarding the problem of human trafficking and to accumulate enough autographs to make that a crime. In Israel, this has been a success in minimizing the demand intended for prostitutes.
